The Family and The Board of Directors of the Trooper Shawn Blanton Memorial Scholarship would like to invite all senior girls who are members of their high school softball team to apply for the memorial scholarship. A NC State Trooper, the scholarship came about as a way of keeping Shawn’s memory alive and helping student atheletes in a sport he dearly loved. At the time of his death, Shawn had just finished his first year as head coach for the Smoky Mountain JV softball team.
The scholarship is open to female atheletes in, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain, Graham, Clay, and Cherokee Counties, as well as the Cherokee Indian Reservation. We will be awarding five one thousand dollar scholarships. The scholarship will be paid directly to the student and she will be able to apply it to whatever her greatest need may be as she starts her college career.
To apply each girl must submit an essay to the Board of Directors to the above address. The essay will be a three hundred word minimum and should include an introduction of herself, school attended, sports played, clubs, awards, honors and any other extracurricular activities she is involved in. She should include what she plans to study in college or what her professional career might be. Tell us about any civic or community functions you are involved in and what your hobbies are.
Essay must be post marked by April 22, 2022 and selection will be made by May 11, 2022. When submitting your essay please include your acceptance letter from the school you plan to attend, also include a school transcript and on a seperate page include current contact information as only the winners will be notified. Failure to submit all requested information will disqualify you.
If you are selected as a recipient you will be required to attend the Trooper Shawn Blanton Memorial Golf Tournament on June 10, 2022, at Sequoyah National Golf Club in Whittier, NC to receive your award.
